Welcome!

Hoşgeldiniz!

Welcome to my electronic portfolio. Here you'll find a collection of information and work that will hopefully take me as a person out of the "box" of information that you have received from LSAC. These pages contain a lot of information about my work and personality that will hopefully help you understand more about who I am and why I want to go to your school.

Thank you for your interest in me as an applicant. Please enjoy my site!

Letter of Intent

Dear Admissions Officer,

Thank you for your interest my application.

I am approaching the mid-way point in the senior year of my collegiate career and am completing my applications for law school. I strongly believe my background in Communication Studies at The College of New Jersey has prepared me for the rigors and expectations of your University. The College of New Jersey has high expectations of all its students, and the Communication Studies department requires many writing intensive courses and large research papers. I continuously study Interpersonal and Organizational Communication, and have taken additional courses in public speaking, public relations and communication research. A paper I have co-authored has been presented at the New Jersey Communication Association conference, as well as the National Communication Association conference in San Francisco.

Biography

My name is Hannah. Born, bred and raised in Flemington, New Jersey, a small town north of Trenton by about twenty minutes. I grew up as the youngest daughter of three, my life filled with furry (sometimes scaled) companions.

I graduated from Hunterdon Central Regional High School in 2007 and moved on to The College of New Jersey. It took me three semesters to declare my Communication Studies major and not nearly as long to declare my minor in Women and Gender Studies.

Résumé

Please feel free to see my résumé here.

Thank you!

Middle East Technical University, Ankara

I left the United States on a blustery February day in the spring of 2010. Plugged into my iPod, a couple of books in my carry-on, soaring expectations dazzling my imagination, and fear settling in the pit of my stomach. The young woman who lifted off from JFK airport that day never returned.

Work & Internship Experiences

During the second semester of my sophomore year, I had the opportunity to work for Senator Shirley K. Turner's office. She is the New Jersey Senator for the 15th district, of which my school is a part. I worked for 120 hours over the course of the semester in tandem with my studies of Women in the Legislative process. I was responsible for taking phone calls and messages throughout my day, as well as additional duties that were assigned as necessary. I spearheaded the organizational methods for inputting and maintaining the database of constituents who submitted their opinion New Jersey's vehicle law that was discussed at the time. I also was responsible for completing legal research on taser legislation and the effects of tasers, farmland assessment and the loopholes that wealthy people and organizations were exploiting, medical marijuana and the effect of it on California and more. I attended a meeting of the New Jersey Senate's Womens' Caucus, which was newly formed that semester. Towards the end of the semester, I represented Senator Turner at an awards ceremony in Elizabeth, NJ to accept her award in her stead.

Throughout my collegiate experience, I have worked at TCNJ's Kendall Hall as well.

Academic Accomplishments

In the Fall of 2010, I co-authored a paper that has been subsequently presented at two Communication Association Conferences. The paper studied national coverage of homelessness in America for the year prior to and the year following the fall of the Lehman Brothers to interpret how Americans thought and felt about who was responsible for dealing with the "homeless issue."

In March 2010, this paper was presented at the New Jersey Communication Association Conference in Newark, NJ.

Costuming for Causes

Besides my academic accomplishments, my biggest hobby is costuming. I have learned how to sew in order to construct costumes to wear at events and conventions. Simply by being somewhere in costume, I bring so much joy and happiness to children, people who are affected by disabilities, and more. I go to events up and down the East Coast as various characters. My most proliferate and notable character is Harley Quinn.

My favorite event, by far, is Wonder Woman Day.
